01/30/10: Mother and Brother Charged in North Collins Death

Eva Cummins, 51, is suspected in the suspicious death of her 23 year old daughter Laura Cummings. Laura was found dead inside the family’s Sherman Avenue home January 21, 2010. Laura’s brother Luke scalded her with hot water. A County Medical Examiner’s autopsy shows Laura suffered thermal burns, blunt force trauma and was eventually suffocated. Laura was physically and mentally challenged. Erie County Sherriff’s deputies found evidence of abuse dating back to 1995. Laura’s brother Richard Cummings reportedly filed a complaint back in July about how he felt Laura was being mistreated in the family’s home. Adult Protective Services came out to investigate a month later.
