People in Genesee County are getting a closer look at the damage after a tornado touched down Saturday evening. It will be quite some time before things get back to normal.
A tornado touched down spanning a 4-mile radius hitting Corfu and parts of Darien with winds up to 100 miles per hour. That’s just enough force to topple trees and rip apart small houses.
Saturday night many people slept in the dark including Jerry and Carol Acquard who lost their barn and rec room.
“I was across the road came over and crossed the driveway before going into my living room and I could have ended up right here where it happened,” said Carol Acquard.
“I just had it repainted and a new roof put on, a metal roof. And my pole barn, we have electric door openers on three doors, two doors weren’t closed and those are just gone and the other is intact, nothing happened to that one,” said Jerry Acquard. Time Warner Cable crews were out early Sunday morning repairing spans across the area, including Route 77, Depot and Genesee Streets. Power has been restored to all residents in Genesee County.
