The Williamsville community is remembering Western New York’s most recent casualty of the war in Iraq. He was a “quiet leader,” said Williamsville South High School Athletic Director reminiscing on his former student Aaron Kenefick.
US Marine Gunnery Sergeant Aaron Kenefick was killed in action in Afghanistan Monday. Thirty year old Kenefick was in his 12th year in the Marine Corps when he lost his life in an ambush.
Williamsville South athletic leaders say Kenefick’s legacy lives on though the leadership he showed on and off the field. He was a tri-season athlete who played baseball, basketball and football. He even played quarterback on the Junior Varsity squad.
“I knew that Aaron had joined the marines and I was very proud. I could see Aaron doing that . Knowing him as I remember him; again he was a young man. I would see him being a quiet leader. A quiet strength person who would be fighting for his country,” compliments Lester.
Kenefick moved to Georgia before enlisting in the marines. Funeral arrangements are being made at the Acadia Cemetery in North Tonawanda.
