09/25/09: Ten Lew-Port H.S. Student Athletes Suspended Following Soccer Hazing Incident

A hazing incident is rocking the Lewiston Porter School District.
At least ten Lewiston Porter High School students did not report to class Friday following a district investigation into a hazing incident.
Several students have been suspended for their involvement. School District officials say the hazing incident targeted at least three members of the girls’ varsity soccer team over the Labor Day weekend. An unidentified source alerted a team coach who took the concern to the school district. Officials will not go into detail as to what exactly happened but say the students were not physically abused, and the incident did not happen here on campus.
“Some of the details I’m really not privy to talk about, but it’s a level of hazing where it didn’t involve physical abuse of a student or sexual abuse. The Girls soccer team apparently has somewhat of a ritual that we found out just the other day. Where they have initiation rights, so to speak. For new players on the team,” said Lewiston Porter Schools Superintendent Chris Roser.
He says both soccer and football players were involved in the hazing incident. Those students have been suspended. For up to 10 days.
