Langston Heritage Group Director Mary Alexander talks about her research and historical markers around Washington County, Tennessee. Formerly known as the Historical African American Site Preservation Society of North East Tennessee. The East Tennessee State University graduate and history professor wrote a 2001 master’s thesis, “Black Life in Johnson City Tennessee 1856-1965.” The research chronicles local African American History around Washington County.

It was home away from home for hundreds of students.” – Calvin Sneed, Sons and Daughters of Douglass Sons and Daughters of Douglass webmaster Calvin Sneed is keeping the Douglass High School Alumni network connected online. Former students from the colored school, turned community center, continue to show their Douglass-pride around Kingsport Riverview community. Sneed talks about life during de-segregation, development plans for Riverview, and passing the Tiger-pride to the next generation via the internet.
