2010 is pregnant with possibilities for several families around the Buffalo Niagara frontier. Nicki Mayo caught up with some of the region’s first babies born in 2010 and Niagara County’s last baby born in 2009.

BUFFALO AND NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y.— A little angel is Erie County’s first recorded birth of 2010. Her name is “Nevaeh” which is “heaven” spelled backwards.
“We had a couple problems in the beginning of the pregnancy so ‘Heaven’ kind of explains the name,” said mother Danielle Dzura of Getzville.
Seven pound 15 ounce Nevaeh Denneen was born at 1:25am at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville.

Officials at Buffalo’s Women and Children’s report they had a baby girl born at 3:20a.m.
Catholic Health reports another baby was born around 4a.m. at Sisters of Charity Hospital.
Niagara County’s first baby of the year Sophia Carroll Madelyn Janese debuted at 6:15a.m at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.
“When we got here I was also ready about five centimeters already so they admitted me,” said mother Katie Wendt of Niagara Falls.
Baby Rich Keller IV couldn’t wait to ring in the New Year in the Cataract City.
Born December 30th, the seven pound three ounce baby is Niagara County’s last recorded birth for 2009.
“We went to the doctor’s the day before and we we’re really expecting him anytime soon. And the next day my water broke,” said Sanborn mother Shawna Williams.
As new parents enjoy their new babies from the top of 2010 and the bottom of 2009, it’s the last minute bundles of joy from 2009 that can save parents a bundle when it comes to filing their taxes.
“Any credit for a child is like as if they had the child for the whole year,” said H&R block’s Diane Scardino. “So even a child born on the last day of the year is a really good benefit,” Scardino added.
H&R Block reports babies born on or before December 31st can provide parents with a $3,650 tax exemption for all of 2009. While parents of babies born after midnight January 1, will have to wait until they file their 2010 taxes in 2011 to qualify for exemptions.
Getzville father Mark Isaacs says little Nevaeh’s arrival is already making a mark in his life.
“When you have a girl, she’ll soften you up. After what I just saw I’m already softened,” said Isaacs referencing the child birth labor. He placed Nevaeh’s footprints on his shirt and hand to send a special message to his special little lady.
“She’ll be the only female to walk all over me,” said Isaacs.
