07/06/09: Catholic Charities Take Over WNY WIC

Women Infant and Children (WIC) participants may notice a little change at several Buffalo area locations. Catholic Charities of Buffalo started phase one of a three part transition plan to take over WIC programs in Western New York.
The WIC program at Buffalo’s Sister’s Hospital Campus is undergoing a couple changes.
The Seton bBuilding is the same. The food and nutrition programs haven’t changed. But there is a new organization in charge.
Power over the program has shifted from Erie County to Catholic Charities in an effort to preserve WIC across WNY.
“Catholic Charities of Buffalo plans to change over six locations in October, with another round targeting the Kalidia offices in January 2010,” said WIC services’ Elizabeth O’conner.
The Seton Building, along with St. Simon’s, East Aurora and Springville locations represent the first phase of the transition.
The four sites serve 5,700 hundred people, by offering health and nutrition help to those in need.
