07/08/09: Steuben Foods Land Purchase

It took 26 years, but a Western New York plant is transitioning from an Erie County tenant to property owner.The Steuben Foods plant started leasing it building back in1983. Then they had 125 employees. Today there are 475 people working in the facility. Over the years, the company invested more than $200 million dollars into the Maple Road plant and paid almost seven-million dollars in rent. Now that they own the building owners say they’re ready to grow again.
“We are confident that assuming full ownership of the will best position us for continued which is good news for us and the public’s economic development,” said Steuben Foods President Kenneth Schlossberg
“We know that their investment is going to continue to grow. We’re going to support them every step of the way at workforce development and anything we can do in the county to have more jobs here in the future,” added Erie County Executive Chris Collins
County leaders say they applaud Steuben. Foods and encourage other companies to similar investments in Western New York.
