10/10/08: Man Charged In Bluff City Slaying

UPDATE: Bluff City Murder Suspect Added to TBI Most Wanted List
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation added a Chesapeake, Virginia man accused of murdering a Bluff City man to the TBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted fugitives.
This is an effort to capture and arrest Abrey Wayne Fortner, 31, who has been on the run since the September 5th incident. Fortner’s last known address is 2505 Gilmerton Road #1, Chesapeake, VA. He is wanted in Sullivan County for First Degree Murder.
You’ll recall, September 5, 2008, Fortner reportedly entered the victim’s apartment at 4988 Bluff City Highway #3, Bluff City, TN and stabbed to death Arthur Theodore Burchard Jr., 40.
Fortner was indicted by a Sullivan County Grand Jury last week. His bond is set at $500,000. There is a $1000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
Authorities say Fortner goes by several aliases including “Buster Fortner” or “Brandon Lawson.” Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Abrey Wayne Fortner should contact the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.

A Chesapeake, Va., man charged in the death of a Bluff City man – who died from “very severe” cuts to his neck – is on the run but believed to be in the region, where he has family ties, Sullivan County’s sheriff said Thursday. Abrey Wayne Fortner has been charged with first-degree murder in the September stabbing death of a Bluff City man. A $3,000 reward is being offered for information that leads directly to an arrest.
