Try to picture Indian Trail Middle School Principal Tammy Pearce on a four foot tall scooter. The former Lady Vols and ETSU basketball player stands 6’4, but she has no problem stooping down to ride her daughter Sydney’s moped to work. Pearce is one of five faculty members ditching her car keys for mopeds and motorcycles.
Five Indian Trail Middle School teachers say they are fed up with high gas prices. The spike at the pump is driving some these Tri-Cities teachers out of the driver’s seat and into the rider’s seat.
Principal Pearce, Assistant Principal Chris Feathers, along with teachers Nelson Arblaster, Bill Griffith and David Nutter make up the Indian Trail Biker Teachers.
The five teamed up back in August at the start of school and decided to stop using their cars to commute to work. The three teachers and two administrators say they hope their students will learn not to burn money as gas prices continue to rise.
The Indian Trail Biker Teachers plan to “bike-it” to school all the way through winter. ###
