Clients this year included Black Women Unmuted, TV One, The White Dress Project, George Washington University and more.
While the EQUITY theme from 2020 – 2023 continued, the major themes of 2024 were MEDIA LITERACY and EDUCATION.

Nicki jumped into the 2024 General Election coverage for Black Women Unmuted. Her reporting focused on the impact of Black women running for office, policy issues and voter mobilization efforts. She also managed the election day and night coverage
Her part-time lecturer position at the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs grew as Nicki took on teaching “Introduction to News Writing and Reporting” and “Broadcast News Writing” courses. Academic highlights include guest speakers and resume portfolio reel assignments.
Nicki devoted a lot of time participating on panels, podcasts and volunteering with schools in an effort to help teach media literacy and a better understanding of careers in journalism.

07/13/2024 The White Dress Project’s 2024 Blossom Awards
The White Dress Project hosted the Empowerment Experience and honored several fibroid advocates with their Blossom Awards. Nicki produced the following award vignettes.
NMN Social Media Summer Internship (Client: The White Dress Project)
NMN facilitated our first official internship in 2024. The NMN intern produced social media videos and copy for NMN client The White Dress Project. TWDP Throwback series commemorated the women’s reproductive health advocacy group’s 10th anniversary. The NMN intern researched, wrote copy, edited videos using Premiere Pro and designed thumbnail images using Canva for more than 70 social media posts over the course of an eight week summer internship.

“Long Distance Reporting: Connecting with Sources From Afar”
Nicki led a workshop with the national staff of “The American Independent” (TAI) newsroom. Nicki’s session, “Long Distance Reporting: Connecting with Sources From Afar” offered the staff insight into her approach to quickly developing sources, vetting and securing interviews when you can’t be on the ground everywhere nationwide.
NABJ 2024 Convention
Nicki presented a workshop and participated in a panel discussion during the National Association of Black Journalists 2024 convention in Chicago.
“Yes You Can Canva Workshop”
Nicki led a packed workshop to teach journalists and media-related professionals various ways to use the Canva graphic design app. There’s a lot you can do in Canva. The free-to-use online graphic design tool is helping more than 130 million monthly active users create social media posts, presentations, posters, videos, logos and more.
“Navigating Misinformation & Disinformation in the 2024 Elections: Media, Voters & Candidates”
Nicki represented Black Women Unmuted as a panelist on the Higher Heights for America panel “Navigating Misinformation & Disinformation in the 2024 Elections: Media, Voters & Candidates.” This discussion served as a precursor to the 2024 General Election.
Double Exposure Film Festival Moderator
Nicki teamed up with 100 Reporters and DC Public Libraries for the 2024 Double Exposure Investigative Film Festival & Symposium. She hosted a talkback session at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library with the filmmakers behind two of the shorts: “Projecting Protest” and “Fox Chase Boy.”

BONUS
Nicki was featured on the Fall 2024 edition of her alma mater Syracuse University’s “The Manuscript” magazine. The back cover photo commemorated the 2024 “Coming Back Together” alumni reunion hosted by the Syracuse University Office of Multicultural Advancement. Since 1982, the Office of Multicultural Advancement has supported and advocated for underrepresented alumni and first generation students. It raises funds for over 50 scholarships and hosts Coming Back Together, the triennial reunion.
“The Manuscript” is Syracuse University’s Black and Latino alumni magazine, and is published three times a year.
